Campbell Faloon

Resident slave-owner in Berbice with a network of family legatees in Belfast.

1. Will of Campbell Faloon of Berbice proved 24/11/1841. The will, dated 07/10/1840, drawn up just before he left Berbice, delineated his assets, including 5/24ths in D. C. Cameron & Co., and provided for the three-way division of the proceeds of his personalty between his sister Mrs Ann Hamilton of Belfast, Mrs Campbell Graham of Belfast and her daughters subject to a payment of £1000 to Mrs William McComb sister of Mrs Elliott, and the remainder to his aunt Mrs Elliott of the Commercial Hotel in Belfast, subject to her support of his nephew Campbell Gibson until 18, and subject to her husband Mr Elliott gaining no benefit from the money. Faloon ordered that his estates - identified as the sugar plantation Smithsons Place in Berbice, the plantain [?] plantation Essendam and Sans Souci in River Berbice, and the sugar plantation in Cuba, District [Attamisal?], named Belfast - be sold and the cash distributed one-fourth to Mrs Ann Hamilton, one-fourth to Mrs Campbell Graham and her daughters paying thereof 'in my name' £300 to the poor of Belfast, one-fourth to Mrs Elliott again on condition of no interference from Mr Elliott and the money benefiting only her children with William Faloon, and the final one-fourth to his nephew Campbell Gibson, son of his late sister Susan Gibson, subject to the payment of £100 to his sister Mrs Elizabeth Hall of Belfast. The will appoints Thomas Williams (q.v.) of Grove End Road St Johns Wood London, William Forsyth of Belfast late of Pln Friends in Berbice, and G. G. Lowenfeld and William Donoghue both of Berbice and also Doctor [Meckleham?] of the City of Havana as executors.
