Biography

Sister of William Smith of Grenada (where he owned Diamond and Revolution Hall): the two were the children of William Smith of Antigua and Mary Oliver. Richard Oliver, the London Alderman, was their cousin.

Will of Mary Smith of Bulstrode St Marylebone (made 15/05/1804) proved 14/02/1806. She left her 'New Division' estate in trust for her sister Sarah Smith to receive the rents then to sell. She recorded arrears of interest of £450 on the annuity of £50 p.a. left to her by her brother William Smith in 1793 secured 2/3rds on the Diamond estate ('1/3rd of which estate he gave to my late cousin Geo. Griffin on Monmouth') and 1/3rd on Resolution [sic] Hall 'which latter estate he gave to Richd. Oliver Smith, son of Sarah Dean.'

PROB 11/1439/57. This 'New Division' estate appears to be distinct from that of the same name owned by Walter Tullideph and bequeathed by him to the Ogilvy family through his daughter Charlotte, who married sir John Ogilvy 5th bart.
