David Webster I

London West India merchant, partner in with his brother James Webster.

1. Will of David Webster of Leadenhall Street proved 02/01/1788. Under the will he left his house at Clapham, on which he said he had spent upwards of £4000, to his brother James Webster for life on condition that James paid their brother Dr Thomas Webster £120 p.a., and then the house passed to Thomas. He left his brother John the interest on £5000, and then to John's wife Catherine, after whose death the principal was to go to the daughters of their brother George; to George himself he left an annuity of £80 p.a. for life and then to George's wife Ann Celeste, with the principal (£2000) again going to George's daughters on Ann Celeste's death. He left his brother Thomas £14,000 and £1020 in India stock, with annuities of just over £100 p.a. to be paid to several other family members by Thomas from the interest. He left £6000 in trust with the income to be paid to the Honourable Miss Barbara Gray, but to be structured by raising the £6000 from his business partnership with James Webster and paying it to Mr George Paterson of Castle Huntley in Scotland on him granting an annuity of £420 p.a. to Miss Barbara Gray on security to be satisfactory to her. He left £1400 in trust to furnish the interest to Robert Wedderburn of Pearsie and his wife Isabella (who was his half-sister); and among smaller legacies to family, friends and business associates he left £1000 to David Wedderburn [later David Webster II] of Leadenhall Street. In a codicil he left £2000 to purchase a house for Miss Barbara Gray.
