Rev. John Findlater

Clergyman, formerly of St Vincent but dying in London at Charlotte Street, Portland Place in 1809. It is not known whether the owned enslaved people on St Vincent, and his will is silent on 'slave-property', but he appears to have repatriated at least £9000 while living there. He sold a town lot, Lot no. 42 in Kingstown, to Rev. John Guilding, in 1799 for £400.

1. Will of Rev. John Findlater clerk of [Charlotte Street] St Marylebone [formerly of the island of St Vincent] proved 22/10/1810. He left his house in Charlotte Street and the property in trust to be realised and invested in consols, with the income on £700 to go to his sister Ann Findlater Andrew of Newmill near Banff, with the income on the remainder to go to his daughter Margaret, wife of James Seton of Dorset Street. [His trustees were Aretas Akers of Westminster Street; Jonathan Morgan of Upper Wimpole Street and Thomas Neale of South Crescent near Bedford Row]. In one of a series of explanatory notes, he listed two series of consols totalling £9000 labelled 'off of the island of St Vincent'.
