John Gilbert Francklyn or Franklyn

London merchant, son of Gilbert Francklyn (q.v.) and partner with Robert Lang (q.v.) in Lang, Turing (q.v.).

1. Will of John Gilbert Franklyn [sic] of Blackmore Essex [made in 1810] proved 05/06/1812. He gave £500 to his wife over and above her entitlement under their marriage settlement to an annuity of £300 p.a. He left monetary legacies to relatives, and annuities to two natural daughters by Victoire Lindsay, and an annuity of 5 guineas p.a. to his 'black servant Joe.' He made his children by his present wife his residuary heirs, although he also provided that if the estates on St Kitts of his grandfather William Ottley came to him as he believe they would, all Ottley's children having died, he gave these to his eldest son and excluded him from the other provisions of the will.

1. PROB 11/1534/76. Victoire Lindsay, the mother of the two daughters described by Francklyn as his natural children, was conceivably the woman of the same name shown as an awardee of slave-compensation fro two claims on Tobago in the 1830s, implying Francklyn had spent time there.
